A comedy for teenagers The play, plot and story.
Françoise is bullied at school. She doesn't know why and she wishes it would stop.
But when it gets too much she goes to her secret place - a derelict barn in the woods.
It is somewhere for her to escape to and she has made it quite homely.
Étienne belongs to Les Verts. It's a gang from the north part of town. He didn't plan to get involved in a
gang, it just sort of happened. Les Verts have one rival gang - Les Rochers - a larger gang who hang
out in the south part of town.
Étienne doesn't really know which territories belong to which gang and one afternoon he is spotted on Les Rochers'
patch and is chased into the woods by some of their gang.
Quickly needing somewhere to hide, Étienne comes across a derelict barn - perfect!
That same afternoon Françoise has been badly tormented by some girls at schools and retreats to her secret place.
It is in the old barn where Étienne and Françoise meet for the first time.
These two teenagers are complete opposites, which is most apparent when they first meet.
But, despite their initial confrontation and immediate loathing of each other, neither of them leaves the barn.
They have one thing in common - they need somewhere to hide.
Reluctantly they start to chat and soon distrust turns to friendly chitchat as
they start to get to know each other.
It's not long before they both start to relax and confess their problems.
Étienne can't understand how such a confident girl like Françoise is being bullied
and Françoise can't understand how such a funny and amusing boy like Étienne has ended up trapped in a gang.
It seems such a long time since Françoise and Étienne felt so relaxed but soon their new friendship is tested.
Bullying and Gangs.
Although this play looks at the issues of bullying and gangs, it is a
comedy and should not be seen as a serious attempt to tackle these
problems. We are, however, extremely aware of the seriousness of
these issues and will address them in a sympathetic and mature
style. The main objectives of this play are to increase the students’
comprehension and confidence in French and to entertain them in a
fun and amusing way.
This is a brand new play.
This is the sixth play in French we have offered to schools.
We follow up every performance with a comment sheet and we put a
great deal of effort into making each new play better than the last.
We are always extremely excited about our new plays and this one, like our previous, will be very amusing,
stimulating and an entertaining piece of language theatre for modern teenagers.
Who is it aimed at?
Abilities can differ from school to school, but this play has been pitched and translated for Year 9 and 10's and/or
students who have been learning French for two years or more. With previous performances many schools have
brought in Year 8's and felt that they have
enjoyed the plays and gained a lot from them. Your year 11's will also gain a great deal from this play and should
not miss out on a valuable experience.

Details
This play, as with all our language plays, is performed by two actors, one male and one female. The set-up takes 30 minutes. The play lasts 50 minutes.
Our main requirement is that all the students watching can see the performance, so where possible we prefer to perform on a stage or in a studio with raised seating. If you do not have a stage and there will be a large audience we ask that some of them sit on the floor.
